Chumley was between 2 and 3 when I adopted him, Annie a bit less than a year old, and both boys 6 months. If or when I adopt again, at my age, it would be an older kitty (or kitties, maybe a bonded pair) that would have less change of finding a home. Just be aware that the older the cat, the more likely there will be health issues. As long as you have the financial means to handle vet bills, you are fine.
